APEDA (Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority) is a Government of India body responsible for promoting the export of Indian agricultural products. This logo redesign project aimed to modernize the institution’s mark while preserving its established identity and authority.
The challenge was to create a logo that felt contemporary and internationally credible — worthy of representing Indian agriculture on the global stage.

Context
As India’s premier authority for the export promotion of agricultural and processed food products, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) serves as the primary visual ambassador for Indian agriculture on the global stage. Operating in a highly competitive international trade landscape, the institution requires a visual identity that commands immediate authority, credibility, and trust among global trade partners, foreign governments, and domestic exporters.
However, APEDA’s legacy logo had begun to feel dated, failing to reflect the modernization, technological advancement, and dynamic growth of India’s contemporary agricultural sector. The strategic challenge was a delicate balancing act: creating a highly confident, modern, and authoritative mark capable of representing a major state-backed institution internationally, while preserving its deep cultural roots. The visual identity needed to explicitly celebrate Indian heritage and agricultural wealth in a sophisticated way, ensuring the brand transitioned into a forward-looking, global-scale trade facilitator.
Approach
The redesign focused on simplifying the mark into a cleaner, more geometric form while elevating its core symbolic elements. The brand's foundational identity was reimagined through a clever use of negative space: a singular grain—the universal symbol of agriculture and sustenance—is framed elegantly against the silhouette of a sprawling peacock tail, proudly representing the national bird and identity of India.
While the original logo already utilized green to signify agriculture, the shade felt artificial and dated. The palette was refined by replacing it with a vibrant, true leaf-green, grounding the brand in authentic natural quality and freshness while communicating global credibility. Typography was modernized to balance this rich cultural symbolism. Every detail was meticulously considered against how the mark would perform across both print applications and digital contexts—from high-stakes institutional stationery and digital trade platforms to official export documentation.
Outcome
The redesigned logo presents APEDA as a contemporary, forward-looking institution — one that confidently represents Indian agriculture on the world stage while honoring its long institutional history and cultural heritage.
